The Safety Relief Specialist II is responsible for performing and reviewing engineering evaluations of process safety systems that protect operating facilities from overpressure and related risks. This role supports both capital project development and operating sites by delivering accurate, efficient, and practical process safety solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Unit and Flare Safety Relief Reviews (SRRs), providing engineering evaluations of pressure relief and flare systems in support of capital projects and site consulting activities
  • Review, consult on, and provide technical quality assurance (TQA) for Safety Relief Reviews performed by site teams or third-party contractors
  • Identify and propose cost-effective mitigation strategies for SRR findings
  • Participate in risk assessments alongside Process Safety and Risk teams
  • Support operating sites in maintaining evergreen unit and flare system models
  • Perform and/or lead pressure relief system analysis to support projects and site-based activities
  • Deliver high-quality, timely, and accurate process safety studies, recommendations, and engineering solutions
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience in a closely related role
  • Previous experience in the oil, gas, refining, or petrochemical industries
  • Strong knowledge of process design fundamentals related to safety, including overpressure scenario identification
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical guidance to engineering teams
  • Solid understanding of process equipment operation, including distillation columns, pumps, and compressors
Preferred Experience
  • Hands-on experience with pressure relief device sizing and systems analysis
  • Experience with unit and flare system modeling and maintenance
  • Prior involvement in capital project process safety studies
  • Proven ability to balance safety, operability, and cost when developing mitigation strategies
