The Senior Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting with the implementation and evolution of safety, and health programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulations as well as Company requirements.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development and implementation of safety programs and procedures to comply with federal, state, and local regulations and Company policies
- Serve as a Safety resource and subject matter expert to assigned geographical area of responsibility
- Maintain a daily field presence by supporting Operations, conducting inspections and training, and verifying a safe work environment in addition to other assigned tasks
- Effectively communicate with all levels of employees and contractors, management, and regulatory agencies
- Implement operational safety or compliance measures as required by new regulations or procedures
- Provide, or assist with, training Operations personnel
- Lead, or assist with, formal and informal incident investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions
- Develop and implement effective corrective actions to resolve issues and eliminate hazards
- Support the development and implementation of JHAs (Job Hazard Analyses) for both routine and non-routine Operations & Maintenance tasks
- Develop and/or implement departmental goals and initiatives
- Conduct interactive monthly safety meetings
- BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent degree, preferred
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Must demonstrate a working knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT experience is a plus
- Familiarity with PSM and RMP regulations is a plus
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with field and office employees, governmental agencies, third party operators, and contractors
- A high level of technical knowledge is required, including the ability to be innovative and creative while utilizing technical resources to address compliance issues
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to company and insurers
- Successful completion and passing of company drug screen, background check and respirator fit test
- Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Must have high level of initiative, and ability to work independently with minimal oversight
- Must have ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and plan daily work activities
- Must have ability and willingness to work with a team, take directions from supervisor(s), follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules
- Must have intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Available to travel within the Weld County, Colorado area on a regular basis, up to 50%, based on business needs
- Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects
- Able to bend and stoop for filing; ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Able to view compute terminal for long periods of time; Manual dexterity for operating computer and office equipment;
- Able to walk for prolonged periods of time, climb stairs and work in remote locations with exposure to varying weather conditions
