Sales Manager – Engineering Projects
Location – Christchurch

Role Overview

This is a high-impact role leading the full sales and bid lifecycle for complex Multi million pound projects within the heavy industry sector. Acting as Bid Project Manager, you’ll take ownership of opportunities from initial enquiry through to contract award, driving order intake and profitability targets.

You’ll work closely with international clients and internal stakeholders, combining strong commercial awareness with technical expertise to deliver winning, high-value proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the end-to-end bid process for allocated projects
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, identifying key decision-makers and investment plans
  • Assess enquiries, define bid strategy, and manage bid budgets
  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional bid teams to deliver competitive proposals
  • Produce budget estimates and fixed-price offers
  • Negotiate commercial and contractual terms to secure orders
  • Ensure smooth handover to project delivery teams post-award
  • Work closely with sales, product, R&D, and marketing teams to align on market needs and opportunities
  • Represent the business at client meetings, trade events, and through digital channels
Key Requirements
  • Strong experience in sales, bidding, or bid project management within engineering or metals industries
  • Solid understanding of metals processes (e.g. steelmaking, aluminium, rolling)
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across international environments
  • Strong commercial, contractual, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Engineering background with knowledge of technical documentation and standards
  • Self-driven, organised, and able to perform under pressure
Qualifications & Additional Info
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
