Our client has a requirement for a Senior Contract Specialist with a key focus on vessel Chartering within the GPC East Contract Management Team to support Global Projects East on predominately pre-award of CPA focusing on contractual flow downs, deviation review and negotiation in accordance with subcontracting and contracting principles.
Overview of Role
· Role is within the Contract Management function supporting SCM
primarily in chartering vessels.
· Chartering of Transportation & Marine Assets to support GPC East Projects
· Responsible for pre award activities; review main contract flow downs,
contractual deviations from vessel owners and suppliers, provide advice and
responses based on subcontracting and contracting principes,
negotiations, support the preparation of internal approval document in line
with the approved authority matrices and placement of CPA and or contracts.
· Ad-hoc contractual support to contractual queries from live projects.
· Mentor and provide guidance on best practices, collaboration and collective
ownership in award and project delivery.
· This is a temporary role and to be based in our Paris, France office.
Negotiation Phase
· Contract Negotiation: Lead contractual negotiations on charter terms, and
conditions in accordance with main contract flow downs and contracting principles.
· Risk Allocation: Negotiate liability, insurance, and indemnity provisions.
· Performance Standards: Define KPIs, service levels, and penalty/bonus
mechanisms.
Award Phase
· Recommendation Development: Support SCM in the award preparation and
recommendations with contractual deviations in accordance with the
approved authority matrices and company procedures.
· Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with project teams, legal, finance, tax and
senior management as needed during the contractual negotiations and
deviations reviews.
· Contract Finalization: Oversee final contract execution and documentation
Handover Planning: Coordinate transition to SCM and highlight key
risks/opportunities and KPI’s to facilitate good administration.
Key Competencies Required
· Deep understanding of maritime law and chartering practices.
· Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
· Risk management and contract administration expertise.
· Knowledge of offshore operations and vessel requirements.
· Team and collaborative player.
· Works in accordance with Values and Code of Conduct.
· Proficient in English communication.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
· Previous experience working with BIMCO charter parties most specifically
Supply Time, Heavycon, Bargehire and GENCON.
· Relevant experience in similar position with owner, broker or working for
charterer.
· Strong Contracting and Negotiation skills.
· Strong communications skills.
· Capable of managing multiple and challenging requests.
· Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
Desirable
Education – a degree in Law, Maritime Business or Maritime Law, or a related
discipline is essential. A postgraduate qualification or professional legal
certificate is highly desirable.
· Contractual expertise – in-depth knowledge of contract law and international
contracting standards, with proven experience drafting, reviewing, and
negotiating complex commercial contracts.
