Senior Data Engineer
Short-Term Contract (January Start)
New Plymouth / Wellington Based

Our client is a well-established Energy company in New Zealand and their launching a major upgrade to their data environment, including the rollout of a new Microsoft Fabric based platform designed to simplify data access, reduce silos, and improve the way insights are delivered across the business.
To support this work, we’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex data challenges and shaping modern cloud data solutions.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and integrations within Microsoft Fabric.
  • Develop and refine ELT/ETL processes, improving speed, reliability, and data quality.
  • Manage and optimise lake and database structure for performance and growth.
  • Apply data governance practices, including standards, documentation, and quality controls.
  • Work closely with analysts and stakeholders to translate data needs into practical solutions
  • Support and enhance existing dataflows, pipelines, and reporting foundations.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science or a related field
  • Certifications or experience in relevant technologies such as Microsoft Certification; Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Engineer Associate or similar
  • Strong ELT/ETL development background (DBT experience is advantageous)
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience with Power BI and Data Factory
  • Experience with Python or other programming languages
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, integration, and governance principles
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, adaptable, and confident in providing technical guidance to others
  • Collaborative and analytical mindset who works well in a fast-paced setting
