Position Overview Black & Veatch is seeking a Sr. Engineering Technician – Advanced Power Generation (APG) to support multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector. This role contributes to the design and development of critical infrastructure projects supporting advanced power generation facilities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) team, producing high-quality 2D and 3D engineering deliverables while leveraging advanced expertise in electrical design and industry-standard software tools. This position requires extensive experience in power generation projects, electrical systems design, and Bentley design platforms.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify complex electrical engineering drawings and models using Bentley MicroStation and related Bentley design tools.
- Create and maintain 2D and 3D design deliverables for advanced power generation facilities.
- Support electrical system design activities including:
- Duct bank design
- Cable tray design
- Grounding systems
- Electrical lighting systems
- Equipment modeling
- Establish and communicate design and graphic standards across projects.
- Review project requirements and ensure correct drawing formats and deliverable content.
- Verify design inputs for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure deliverables meet applicable industry codes, standards, and quality requirements.
- Perform engineering calculations, material takeoffs, quantity estimates, and technical documentation.
- Manage drawing control processes and maintain historical project records.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
- Review and provide quality oversight on deliverables produced by other technicians and designers.
- Monitor production activities to support adherence to project budgets and schedules.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to other engineering technicians.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design standards, guides, and processes.
- Participate in field support activities as required.
- Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or related field OR
- Diploma/Certificate in a relevant Engineering Design discipline.
- Minimum 11 years of related engineering design experience.
- Extensive experience supporting power generation projects.
- Advanced proficiency with Bentley MicroStation.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering design principles and practices.
- Experience developing engineering deliverables in a CAD/BIM/3D modeling environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and design execution.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering design technology or related discipline.
- Experience with:
- 3D equipment modeling

- Grounding system design
- Lighting design
- Experience using AGI32 for lighting calculations and illumination modeling.
- Previous experience providing technical guidance, mentorship, and quality review oversight.
