Position Summary
Our client is seeking a full-time Senior Process Engineer, Gas Handling to lead the process design and optimization of sour gas systems associated with the Clearwater Project in Alberta, with work primarily based in Calgary.
This includes inlet handling equipment, acid gas compression, as well as the sour gas support systems located at the Central Processing Facility.

Responsibilities
- Develop process designs for sour gas handling systems including compression, conditioning, fuel gas, and emissions treatment.
- Review and approve process simulations, HMBs, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and line sizing for gas systems.
- Support specification, evaluation, and selection of compressors, separators, boilers, and flare systems.
- Serve as a technical lead within PHA studies and other safety studies related to gas systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards such as CSA, API, and ASME.
- Coordinate engineering inputs across disciplines and with external engineering firms.
- Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of gas handling equipment.
- Ensure sour gas handling systems comply with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Support construction, installation, and commissioning activities for sour gas handling systems.
- Support development of operating procedures and manuals for sour gas systems.
- Assist in troubleshooting and optimization of sour gas systems during commissioning and early operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in sour gas processing or related process engineering roles.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA in good standing.
- Proficiency with process simulation tools (e.g. Aspen HYSYS, OLI Systems) and development of sour gas system process engineering deliverables.
- Thorough understanding of sour gas compressors, separators, boilers, and flare systems.
- Demonstrated understanding of process control, process safety, and risk management as it relates to sour gas systems.
- Working knowledge of CSA Z662, API 520/521, ASME B31.3, and other codes relevant to sour gas systems.
- Familiarity with AER regulations and sour gas licensing requirements in Alberta.
- Demonstrated experience leading or participating in HAZOP, PHA, and LOPA studies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to cross-functional and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in EPC environments.
