The Senior Project Controller provides advanced project management support across cost control, budgeting, forecasting, change management, progress measurement, and reporting for large‑scale capital projects. This role collaborates closely with project managers, engineering, procurement, construction, and accounting teams to ensure projects meet cost and schedule objectives. The Senior Project Controller plays a key role in establishing and maintaining project controls systems, developing baselines, monitoring performance, and supporting assurance reviews throughout the project lifecycle. 

Key Responsibilities Project Controls & Cost Management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project controls procedures for schedule, cost, and reporting.
  • Establish control Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and budgets in SAP and Omega PIMS.
  • Review cost and forecast drivers; update time‑phased budgets and Estimate‑to‑Complete (ETC).
  • Track cost, committed spend, and variances; prepare accruals and incurred cost reports.
  • Review and analyze contractor cost reports, progress updates, and Estimate‑at‑Completion (EAC).
  • Manage project trend logs, pending changes, and contract change orders.
  • Support AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) funding processes.
  • Complete requisitions for materials/services and validate invoice accuracy.
Project Planning & Performance Monitoring
  • Collaborate with estimators and schedulers to develop project baselines.
  • Maintain project milestone lists and monitor schedule alignment with cost forecasts.
  • Participate in HRIM and QRA meetings; update budgets/forecasts accordingly.
  • Apply Earned Value Management (EVM), rules of credit, and performance metrics.
  • Work with material/service providers to define EVM rules of credit.
  • Evaluate allowances for unknowns, contingency, and escalation. 
Project Integration & Reporting
  • Collect and interpret data from engineering, procurement, construction, and accounting stakeholders.
  • Review project documentation during assurance reviews and provide expert feedback.
  • Prepare monthly project reporting packages and provide insights for improvements.
  • Support junior and intermediate project controllers within the team.
  • Deliver presentations to senior management as required.
  • Ensure completion of all financial, administrative, and system close‑out activities.
Required Qualifications Education
  • Undergraduate degree required.
Experience
  • Minimum 8+ years of project controls or cost management experience.
  • Experience executing moderate‑ to high‑risk capital projects across varying asset types.
  • Field experience considered an asset.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency required.
  • Experience using Omega PIMS or similar cost management systems is beneficial.
