Senior Regulatory Specialist

A growing renewable energy development organization is seeking a Senior Regulatory Specialist to support its Development team. This newly created role will play a key part in advancing clean energy projects in British Columbia and supporting long-term growth objectives.
The Senior Regulatory Specialist will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, aligning engagement strategies with permitting and environmental assessment milestones, mentoring engagement team members, and managing complex, high‑risk stakeholder interfaces — particularly with Indigenous Nations and regulatory authorities.

This is a senior-level opportunity requiring deep experience navigating British Columbia’s environmental assessment and regulatory frameworks within renewable energy or large infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic oversight of regulatory engagement and community consultation requirements to ensure compliance with provincial and federal permitting obligations.
  • Ensure engagement activities are aligned with environmental assessment and regulatory submission requirements.
  • Identify consultation risks and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
  • Lead the development and execution of engagement strategies and structured consultation processes with Indigenous Nations.
  • Support the establishment of clear protocols and best practices for working directly with Indigenous communities.
  • Provide senior-level oversight and strategic direction on complex projects and high‑risk Indigenous or stakeholder relationships.
  • Oversee the development of engagement materials, including consultation records, presentations, summaries, issue logs, and inputs to regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure documentation standards meet regulatory and internal corporate requirements.
  • Manage engagement schedules to ensure alignment with regulatory submission timelines.
  • Track consultation milestones and ensure commitments are met.
  • Collaborate closely with Regulatory, Environmental, and Development teams to integrate engagement activities into overall project schedules.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience in Indigenous engagement, regulatory consultation, or community relations within renewable energy, infrastructure, or natural resource development.
  • Strong understanding of British Columbia environmental assessment processes and consultation frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with Indigenous Nations and navigating complex stakeholder environments.
  • Experience managing engagement schedules across multiple projects.
  • Proven ability to mentor and guide junior or mid-level team members.
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations to Indigenous communities and key stakeholders.
  • Strong subject-matter expertise with excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience in renewable energy or large infrastructure development is considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel (estimated 30–50%).
