Service Designer Job Description

My client is seeking a Service Designer to work as part of the Design Studio (20 UX/UI designers), the consultant will act as an expert to facilitate the scoping of strategic program(s). At the Digital Factory, a strategic program is a large-scale initiative aimed at:

  • Accelerating structural change in how the company operates (processes, tools, data)
  • Deploying a platform or set of high-value digital products for the business units
  • Orchestrating multiple cross-functional teams (Digital, Business, Data, OT, Cloud, UX, etc.)
  • Unifying a landscape of disparate solutions to create a coherent, maintainable, & scalable system
  • Generating value (OPEX, production, safety, operational efficiency)

These programs are part of a broader digital transformation framework & are based on:

  • Structuring technological content (platform, data layer, digital twin, mobility, AI, etc.)
  • Business workstreams (maintenance, operations, HSE, production)
  • Multidisciplinary governance
  • Industrialized use cases, prioritized according to value & expected impact.

As a Service Designer, the role is to provide a comprehensive & systemic vision to transform complex problems into opportunities for seamless & consistent services, & to identify use cases. In this scoping phase, the service provider is not a "screen designer," but an experience strategist.  The Service Designer works on the intangible aspects of services to synchronize processes, technologies, & human interactions.  This mission relies on close collaboration with Product Managers (PMs) to ensure alignment between business vision & user experience.

Initial Priorities

    • Design Research & Scoping: Conduct investigations (interviews, observations) to ground strategic programs in the reality of user needs & define the value proposition.
    • Systemic Modeling: Visualize complexity through structuring deliverables such as Service Blueprints (front-stage & back-stage), Journey Maps, & stakeholder ecosystems.
    • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Ensure the sustainability of the scoping by rigorously documenting all work to make it understandable to everyone. This involves capitalizing on insights & design decisions to guarantee a smooth & effective handover to the development teams at the end of this mission.
    • Experimentation: Prototype service concepts or organizational models to validate strategic assumptions & the value proposition before technical deployment.

Cross-functional contributions

    • PM/Designer partnership: Collaborate closely with Product Managers on framing use cases & defining roadmaps.
    • High-level facilitation: Design & lead co-creation workshops with stakeholders whose perspectives may diverge (business, IT, management).
    • Organizational alignment: Act as a facilitator to break down silos, ensure a shared understanding of the entire system, & promote a service design culture.
    • Decision support: Translate complex data into simple visuals to secure buy-in from decision-makers on proposed concepts.
