Position Summary
The Startup Manager is responsible for leading system startup, commissioning execution, and turnover for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role ensures safe, efficient energization and performance validation of plant systems, coordinating across construction, commissioning, and operations teams to achieve successful project completion and handover.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead startup and energization activities for solar PV and BESS systems
  • Coordinate commissioning execution with EPC, subcontractors, OEMs, and grid operators
  • Develop and manage startup plans, procedures, and system turnover sequences
  • Oversee system walkdowns, punch list resolution, and mechanical completion verification
  • Ensure safe energization practices, including LOTO coordination and clearance management
  • Support testing activities (functional, performance, and grid compliance testing)
  • Serve as the primary interface between construction, commissioning, and O&M teams
  • Track startup progress, risks, and readiness to meet COD (Commercial Operation Date)
  • Ensure all documentation, test results, and turnover packages are complete
 
Qualifications
  • 5–10+ years of experience in power generation, renewables, or commissioning/startup
  • Proven experience with utility-scale solar and/or BESS projects
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, substations, and grid interconnection
  • Experience managing energization and system integration activities
  • Knowledge of safety standards, including LOTO and energized work practices
Preferred:
  • Prior role in commissioning or startup leadership
  • Experience with SCADA, EMS, or inverter/BESS OEM systems
  • OSHA 30 or relevant safety certifications
