Technical Data Specialist 
 
Contract period: 02.11.2026 - 30.09.2027
Location: Stavanger 

Main tasks:
  • Identify, collect, structure and curate relevant field interpreted G&G data and associated contextual information in designated Petrel Studio databases.
  • Review and improve Petrel Studio folder structures to support controlled storage, meta-data capture, access and reuse.
  • Perform data quality control covering completeness, consistency, validity, duplication and conformity with agreed standards.
  • Apply agreed naming conventions, meta-data requirements, classification principles and data management standards.
  • Establish and preserve data lineage, provenance, ownership, status and relevant interpretation context.
  • Support identification and documentation of data and prepare selected data for subsequent liberation and ingestion into OSDU.
  • Support data discovery, receipt, loading, validation, organisation, retrieval, transfer and delivery across relevant repositories and applications.
  • Provide operational support to business with relevant users, investigate data issues, coordinate corrective actions and contribute to continuous improvement of work-flows and standards.
  • Collaborate with G&G disciplines, Subsurface Data Management, the Subsurface Curated Database (SCD) project (OSDU preparation), digital and technical teams, and relevant external data providers or partners.

Qualifications:
  • Relevant higher education in geology, geophysics, subsurface data management, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with subsurface data management and G&G interpretation data in the exploration and production domain.
  • Strong practical experience with Petrel and Petrel Studio, including database structures, data loading, extraction, consolidation, validation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with interpreted subsurface data such as horizons, faults, surfaces, well picks, velocity data and geological or reservoir models.
  • Experience in data quality control, meta-data management, naming standards, master and reference data, data lineage and life-cycle management.
  • Working knowledge of OSDU concepts, data models and preparation of subsurface data for standardised, cloud-based consumption is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently within an integrated team, manage changing priorities, document work clearly and engage effectively with domain specialists, users and technical teams.
  • Professional proficiency in English; Norwegian language capability is beneficial.
