Technical Safety Engineer
Location: Norwich

An established international energy operator is expanding its QSHE function and is seeking a Technical Safety Engineer with circa 3–5 years’ experience to support a growing portfolio of offshore and onshore projects across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to further develop their technical safety career within a highly regarded operator environment, working across complex operational and project-based activities. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, regulators, and senior stakeholders to ensure compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement across key assets.
The organisation conducts consequence modelling in-house, therefore previous experience with PHAST, CFD tools, or similar software would be highly advantageous. Experience with Fire Water Systems would also be beneficial, although not essential.
Key Responsibilities
• Facilitate and support technical safety studies including HAZID, ALARP, Bowtie and Total Risk Management workshops
• Develop Barrier Diagrams (Bowties) and assist with wider risk visualisation activities
• Conduct consequence modelling activities using PHAST and FLARESIM
• Perform Mini QRAs including event tree and fault tree development
• Undertake Hazardous Area Classification studies and Fire & Explosion Risk Assessments
• Support Safety Case material changes and 5-Year Thorough Reviews
• Apply COMAH regulations and contribute to wider process safety compliance activities
• Support offshore and onshore operational risk assessments and engineering projects
• Liaise with project teams, operational personnel, regulators, and senior stakeholders on technical safety matters
Candidate Requirements
• Degree qualified in Process Safety, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
• Approximately 3–5 years’ experience within Oil & Gas, Energy, Chemicals, or another high-hazard industry
• Previous experience within a Technical Safety or Process Safety engineering role
• Experience using software such as PHAST, PHAPro, BowTie XP and FLARESIM
• Understanding of UK offshore safety regulations and COMAH legislation
• CFD experience would be advantageous
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Motivated individual looking to develop within a technically challenging operator environment
