Technical Services Superintendent – Short Term Planning
A leading mining operator in North Queensland is seeking an experienced Technical Services Superintendent (Short Term Planning) to join their site leadership team. This permanent role reports to the Technical Services Manager and is suited to a senior open-cut coal professional ready to step into a key leadership position within Technical Services. This position leads short- to medium-term mine planning functions and oversees a multidisciplinary technical team to support safe, efficient, and sustainable production. The successful candidate will work closely with operations to align planning outcomes with site performance targets.
Team structure
Direct leadership responsibilities include:
• Short Term Superintendent (managing 2 production engineers and 2 mining engineers)
• Geology Superintendent (managing 2 surveyors and 2 geologists – exploration and coal quality)
• Senior Mine Planner – medium to long term (managing 1 mining engineer)

Key responsibilities
- Degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in short- to medium-term planning within an open-cut coal environment
- Proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik and Vulcan (Spry advantageous)
- Proven leadership and team development capability
- Strong safety focus and working knowledge of Queensland Coal Mining legislation
- Commercial awareness, including budgeting and forecasting
- Ability to present planning strategies and risk considerations to senior stakeholders
- Current QLD Coal Board Medical and Standard 11 (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Australian driver’s licence and full Australian working rights
- 8+ years’ experience in open-cut coal mining with a planning focus
- Previous experience in a Superintendent or Senior Engineer capacity
- Strong collaboration with mining, drill & blast, and maintenance teams
- Track record of improving planning processes and production outcomes
- Confident stakeholder engagement and communication skills
