Tunnel Shift Foreman 

Role Purpose
Reporting to the Superintendent the Tunnel Shift Foreman is responsible for the direct supervision of the labour force during tunnelling activities, ensuring works are carried out safely, efficiently and in compliance with approved documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the labour force while they are at work, including tunnelling operatives and subcontractors.
  • Ensure direct labour and subcontractors comply with all safety rules, RAMS and permits, including tunnelling-specific controls.
  • Give clear instructions to operatives and subcontractors as required to safely deliver tunnelling activities.
  • Maintain allocation sheets, shift records and labour returns.
  • Supervise tunnelling works on a shift basis, ensuring activities follow approved methodologies.
  • Deliver daily briefings and toolbox talks, including underground hazards and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor productivity, discipline and housekeeping within tunnelling work areas.
  • Stop works and escalates immediately where unsafe conditions or non-compliance are identified.
  • Liaise with the site team to coordinate daily tunnelling activities.
  • Demonstrated construction site safety competence, with the ability to complete all mandatory project and local safety inductions required for construction works in Poland.
Skills & Experience
  • Significant operational experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience working in a cost-conscious environment.
  • Strong people management and supervisory experience.
  • Supplier and subcontractor management experience.
  • Experience working on tunnelling or underground construction projects. (Desirable)
  • Experience with TBM, SCL or shaft works. (Desirable)
  • Experience working on major infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with the polish language would be advantageous.
