TAR Safety Coordinator / Turnaround Safety Superintendent The TAR Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading all safety activities related to a refinery, petrochemical, or industrial turnaround (TAR). This individual develops and executes turnaround-specific safety programs, ensures regulatory compliance, drives contractor safety performance, and serves as the primary safety leader throughout planning, execution, and closeout phases of the turnaround.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement turnaround safety plans, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide safety leadership throughout all phases of the turnaround.
- Review work packages, schedules, JSA/JHA documentation, and execution plans for safety risks.
- Partner closely with the Site Safety Manager to align safety expectations and priorities.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety requirements.
- Manage contractor safety performance and documentation.
- Lead audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action programs.
- Conduct TAR orientations, safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills.
- Promote a strong safety culture across operations, maintenance, and contractor groups.
- Coordinate safety communications across all turnaround stakeholders.
- Extensive turnaround/shutdown/outage safety experience in refinery, petrochemical, chemical plant, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, process safety, confined space entry, lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, crane and rigging activities, and contractor safety management.
- Experience overseeing large contractor workforces during major turnarounds.
- Proven ability to lead safety meetings, investigations, audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence both management and craft personnel.
- Experience working closely with operations, maintenance, and HSE leadership teams.
- 5+ years of industrial safety experience, with significant turnaround experience.
- OSHA 30 or OSHA 500/510 training.
- CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, or similar safety certification preferred.
- Experience in refinery, petrochemical, LNG, power generation, or chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Strong understanding of contractor safety management systems and turnaround execution processes.
