About the Opportunity NES Fircroft is seeking experienced and safety-focused Welders to support upcoming works associated with the Papua LNG Project in Papua New Guinea.

This opportunity is exclusively available to PNG Nationals and is aimed at skilled tradespeople with previous experience in LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, fabrication, structural steel, major construction or similar heavy industrial environments.

Successful candidates will work as part of a multidisciplinary construction team and will be responsible for performing welding and associated fabrication activities safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards in accordance with approved drawings, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), project procedures and specifications.

Key Responsibilities As a Welder, your responsibilities will include:

• Perform welding activities on piping, structural steel, supports and associated components as required.
• Carry out welding using approved processes, including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW and/or FCAW, depending on project requirements and individual qualifications.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, weld maps and relevant technical documentation.
• Follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and project quality requirements.
• Prepare materials and joints for welding, including cleaning, grinding and checking joint preparation.
• Check fit-up, alignment, root gaps and joint configuration prior to commencing welding.
• Perform production welds in accordance with approved procedures and applicable welding positions.
• Maintain correct welding parameters and consumable control throughout welding activities.
• Visually inspect completed welds and identify potential defects requiring rectification.
• Perform weld repairs in accordance with approved procedures when authorised.
• Ensure weld identification and traceability requirements are maintained.
• Work closely with Pipe Fitters, Mechanical Fitters, Gas Cutters, riggers, supervisors and quality personnel.
• Assist with fabrication, material preparation and fit-up activities where required.
• Ensure welding machines, leads, electrode holders, torches and associated equipment are inspected and maintained in safe working condition.
• Comply with hot-work permits, fire prevention, fire-watch and barricading requirements.
• Maintain appropriate protection for surrounding personnel and equipment during welding activities.
• Ensure welding consumables are handled and stored in accordance with project requirements.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure work areas remain clean and safe.
• Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and other project safety activities.
• Follow all site Health, Safety, Security and Environment requirements.
• Carry out other reasonable duties as directed by the Welding Supervisor or Superintendent.

Qualifications & Experience Candidates should ideally have:

• Recognised welding trade qualification, vocational certificate or demonstrated competency in welding and fabrication.
• Previous experience as a Welder within LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, mining, fabrication, structural steel or major industrial construction projects.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more welding processes, such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW or FCAW.
• Experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel and/or other project-specific materials would be advantageous.
• Experience with piping and/or structural steel welding.
• Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, weld maps and welding documentation.
• Good understanding of joint preparation, fit-up and welding requirements.
• Familiarity with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welder qualification requirements.
• Understanding of common weld defects and the importance of weld quality.
• Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) requirements and weld inspection processes would be advantageous.
• Understanding of hot-work permits, fire prevention and associated safety controls.
• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural and multidisciplinary project team.
• Previous LNG or major oil & gas project experience will be highly regarded.

Mandatory Requirements Applicants must:

• Be a Papua New Guinea Citizen / National.
• Hold valid identification and supporting documentation confirming PNG citizenship.
• Hold relevant welding trade, vocational or competency certificates where applicable.
• Provide evidence of relevant welder qualifications or previous welding certifications where available.
• Be prepared to undertake and successfully pass project-specific weld qualification testing where required.
• Be capable of welding to the required project quality standard and approved welding procedures.
• Be willing to work at designated project locations within Papua New Guinea.
• Be willing and able to work the project roster and scheduled working hours.
• Be medically fit to perform the inherent requirements of the role and successfully complete applicable pre-employment medical requirements.
• Comply with all project alcohol and other drug, safety, security and site access requirements.
