Position: Wellsite Geologist
Location: Baku, Azerbaijan
Status: Resident
Duration: 12 months renewable
Activities
HSE
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of and adherence to Company HSE policies, rules, and procedures.
• Actively participate in HSE initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
• Ensure strict compliance with all safety procedures by Mud Logging, Wireline, and LWD personnel.
• Enhance operational safety by effectively identifying and interpreting pore pressure and potential drilling hazards in real time.
Main Tasks
• Coordinate and execute geological monitoring activities, including ditch cuttings analysis, hydrocarbon show evaluation, and supervision of electrical logging operations.
• Ensure compliance with wellsite procedures and standards for Mud Logging, Wireline, and LWD data acquisition, in close collaboration with Drilling & Wells representatives.
• Maintain full accountability for the quality and integrity of all geoscience data collected at the drilling site.
• Validate and ensure reliable transmission of data from the rig site to the base, including conducting on-site quick-look log interpretations.
• Support subsurface operations through close collaboration and integration with the 2G&R team.
• Supervise services companies and perform quality audits of Mud Logging, Wireline, and LWD contractors.
• Promote effective communication and coordination between Mud Logging, Wireline, LWD teams, and Drilling crews.
• Oversee the mobilization, setup, and reception of personnel and equipment from Mud Logging, Wireline, and LWD.
• Contribute to contractor performance evaluations by providing detailed reports on HSE, operational efficiency, timing, equipment failures, and non-productive time.
• Validate the Mud Logging, Wireline, and LWD job tickets.
• Work with management to define logging programs, including interval selection and total depth for casing points.
• Participate in daily on-site meetings, providing geoscience input to enhance drilling safety and efficiency.
• Prepare wellsite logs, composite logs, and geological reports in accordance with company standards.
• Contribute to final well reports and post-drilling evaluations.
• Mentor Junior Wellsite Geologists and actively support the training and development of new Wellsite Geologists.
Context and environment
• The position is based in Azerbaijan, Offshore Caspian Sea.
• The work will take place on offshore drilling rig. Occasional office-based work in the Baku office may be required.
• The candidate will be on rotational status, working 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off.
• He / She will be working under the responsibility of the Head of Subsurface & Geological Operations, base in Baku / Azerbaijan.
Accountabilities
• Responsible for all Geological Operations activities on offshore drilling rig,
• Contribute to operational safety through efficient real-time identification and interpretation of any drilling hazards,
• Guarantee pertinence, reliability and quality of data and geological measurements acquired while drilling,
• Assure the supervision of the service companies and conduct quality audits for Mud Logging, Wireline and LWD contractors.
Qualifications/Experience required
• Candidates shall have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in wellsite geology.
• Proven experience in deep offshore operations is required, with previous exposure to offshore Azerbaijan environments preferred.
• Good communication skills. Fluent English language.
• Gravitas software user.
• Valid Subsurface Geology for Operation Geologists and Well Site Geologists IFP Training Certificate.
• Valid medical certificate “fit for offshore” and BOSIET + CA/EBS certificates (OPITIO).
