🔧 Electrical Field Engineer – Leixlip, Ireland 

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading global industrial gases company that is driving innovation in energy transition and sustainability. Our client is investing heavily in green and blue hydrogen, carbon capture, and hydrogen mobility infrastructure, including the development of hydrogen fuel stations and large-scale gasification projects.

As part of their continued growth, they are seeking a motivated and skilled Electrical Field Engineer to join their team at the Leixlip site in Ireland.

🌍 About the Role

The Electrical Field Engineer will be responsible for supervising and performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning of electrical equipment across production facilities, joint ventures, and third-party sites.

This role demands strong technical expertise, communication skills, and flexibility to respond to operational needs across the UK and Ireland.

🔩 Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns, inspect, diagnose faults, repair, and recommission equipment to minimise production loss.
  • Support routine and major overhaul maintenance activities, including shutdowns, in line with the Plant Maintenance Programme.
  • Supervise contractors and internal staff to ensure safe and effective execution of work.
  • Implement plant modifications based on central design specifications and submit design changes for approval.
  • Generate scope, cost estimates, and obtain expenditure approval for certain projects.
  • Provide technical advice and support to Plant Managers and staff on maintenance issues.
  • Review and update preventive maintenance procedures in collaboration with the Maintenance Systems group to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports post-assignment, including:
    • Scope of work
    • Technical drawings
    • Spare parts used
    • Resources and durations
    • Recommendations and feedback
    • Methods and special tools
    • Future work suggestions
  • Support commissioning of new plant and equipment, ensuring correct installation, calibration, and adherence to safety standards.
🧠 Skills & Experience
  • Strong familiarity with electrical equipment such as:
    • Induction and synchronous motors
    • Protective relays
    • Switchgear and starters
    • Control systems
    • Transformers and generators
    • Electrical distribution systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently and understand the interaction between electrical systems and process equipment.
  • Experience in identifying permanent solutions including equipment replacement, revision, or redesign.
  • Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship.
  • Vocational qualification to minimum HNC (UK) or equivalent.
  • Post-apprenticeship experience in electrical distribution, protection, and controls.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical control drawings.
  • High voltage and large motor experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written).
  • Prior experience in an industrial gases environment is advantageous.
⏱ Flexibility & Availability
  • This is a fast-paced role requiring 24/7 responsiveness to operational needs.
  • Must be flexible and available to travel across the UK and Ireland, including short-notice call-outs for plant breakdowns.
