Today marks the launch of the first edition of the Women in Energy Global Study, a research piece launched by NES Global Talent and Energy Jobline (EJL), designed to explore challenges faced by women working in the energy sector in 2018.

The report, produced from the results of an online survey, investigates key topics within the gender diversity movement, including mentoring, flexible working, “Pink vs Blue Jobs” and industry leavers.

The findings are predicted by the two project manager companies as a key tool in “effecting change” in energy staffing through improved diversity best practice.

The Women in Energy Global Study was exclusively launched on Wednesday morning at the “Promoting Women in Energy” breakfast seminar in Aberdeen, also hosted by NES Global Talent and EJL.

Key statistics from the report include:

  • ‘Engineering’ was the most common job type for women in energy and only one fifth claimed to specialise in the commonly named ‘Pink Jobs’ such as HR and Administration.
  • 63 per cent of women in energy are the primary wage earners in their household.
  • 30 per cent of respondents have children.
  • When women in energy were asked what their current company could do to be more inclusive to women, ‘More flexible working’ and ‘better communication’ were cited as a top priority.
