Director – HSE Summary The Director of HSE provides strategic leadership and oversight for health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and process safety programs across office and field operations. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulations and supports organizational goals through proactive risk management and continuous improvement initiatives. The position involves both individual contributions and oversight of contractors and external stakeholders.
The Director will be instrumental in developing and implementing a comprehensive HSE Management System and fostering a strong safety culture. This role collaborates closely with operations leadership, field teams, and senior executives to build a technically sound and scalable HSE function. Essential Functions & Responsibilities

The Director will be instrumental in developing and implementing a comprehensive HSE Management System and fostering a strong safety culture. This role collaborates closely with operations leadership, field teams, and senior executives to build a technically sound and scalable HSE function. Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety and environmental policies in alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Oversee regulatory permitting and documentation processes.
- Lead initiatives to improve safety culture and reduce operational risks.
- Design and manage employee training programs related to safety and environmental compliance.
- Support environmental programs including air quality, hazardous waste, wastewater, and pollution prevention.
- Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies regarding compliance matters.
- Maintain and update spill prevention, risk management, and emergency response plans.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations to reduce emissions.
- Lead internal HSE meetings and prepare executive-level updates.
- Act as primary contact for external HSE inquiries, coordinating responses with leadership.
- Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Ensure timely internal and external reporting of safety and environmental metrics.
- Maintain professional affiliations and stay current with industry best practices and regulations.
- Proven leadership in HSE roles with a track record of success.
- Proficiency in HSE reporting systems and contractor management.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage complex safety and environmental challenges.
- Availability for emergency response as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in oil and gas operations, including field exposure.
- At least 10 years of HSE experience in upstream oil and gas.
- Deep knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Expertise in process safety and environmental management.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Extended periods of sitting and standing.
- Physical activity including walking, climbing, and lifting.
- Travel requirement: approximately 20%.
