Job Title: Pipeline Systems Development Engineer

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Length: 6 month contract to start with strong possibility of extension

Rotation: Monday–Friday, 8 hours/day

 

Description:

The client is seeking a Pipeline Systems Development Engineer with a strong background in gas pipeline transportation hydraulics and gas processing. This role requires a process engineer capable of modeling pipelines (including some compression) and conducting preliminary scoping of infrastructure opportunities. A solid understanding of gas and two-phase flow, commercial drivers, and report writing is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Systems Development team evaluates commercial opportunities against existing infrastructure and recommends system enhancements in collaboration with Hydraulics, Business Development, Operations, Commercial Services, and Capital Project Teams.

This role primarily supports gas infrastructure expansion projects and includes the following responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Business Development and Commercial teams to evaluate proposed projects;
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop fit-for-purpose, cost-effective solutions for clients;
  • Understand and communicate system and pipeline throughput in partnership with the Hydraulics team;
  • Rapidly define, quantify, and evaluate pipeline system opportunities and associated impacts;
  • Lead capital value-creation studies and projects, from development of options to recommendations;
  • Conduct hydraulic modeling of gas systems;
  • Create and issue technical scoping reports.
 

Qualifications:

  • Experience modeling gas and/or multiphase pipelines using software such as PipeSim, Pipeflo, HYSYS, or SynergiGas is essential;
  • Approximately 10 years of experience preferred, with APEGA registration in good standing;
  • Strong technical understanding of pipeline gas hydraulics, compression, and operations;
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling of liquid pipelines is considered an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical ideas;
  • Strong commercial acumen, including understanding of product volumes, fees/tolls, capital and operating costs, and value generation;
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, stay organized, and adapt quickly;
  • Exceptional presentation skills and ability to tailor messages to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Skilled in triage, prioritization, and value-based decision-making;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; able to unify diverse teams toward common goals;
  • Motivated, collaborative team player with a strong work ethic and mentoring mindset;
  • Solid understanding of midstream operations and support of commercial growth opportunities;
  • Experience in project management processes and early-stage project scoping;
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities with a focus on tangible outcomes;
  • Strong analytical, interpretive, and visual communication skills.
