Security Practice Lead

New Plymouth or Wellington Based

This well-established energy company are proud to be on a journey to help Aotearoa meet its target of net zero emissions by 2050. They are busy, and in this dynamic role we are looking for an experienced Security Practice Lead, to assist them with streamlining their operations further.

This 6-month contract is responsible for leading and enabling the operational security function across their company.  You will ensure that the security team is fully aligned with the company’s strategic goals and supports continuous improvement and maintains operational maturity across all security capabilities.

Coming from a security background (engineering or analyst), you will also be responsible for fostering a high performing and collaborative team culture through coaching, governance and escalation support.

Although you will not have any direct reports you will be responsible for the mentoring, coaching and overall operational excellence of a small team to improve overall performance. This will include supporting a security operations team across all capability pillars including Detect & Respond, Threat Intelligence and Security Engineering.

Specific responsibilities of the role include:
  • Providing coaching and mentoring and performance feedback to team members
  • The overseeing of the implementation and tuning of relevant security tooling
  • The effective communication of complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
  • Representation of the security function in cross-functional meetings and governance forums
  • The identifying of skill gaps through training and mentoring
  • Providing security input into project planning and change management processes
  • Implementing and maintaining quality systems and processes to support the structure, growth and agility of their team including the development of progress reports, etc.
  • An ability to change and adapt to a rapidly changing environment and to be always looking and challenging around continuous improvement

What You’ll Bring:

You will have a relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, technology or similar and have at least 5 years of experience in infrastructure, network or systems engineering while having at least 2 years within security engineering or relevant analyst roles.
