Description: Job Summary: Occidental Petroleum is seeking a Mid-Level Automation Technician to support upstream onshore oil and gas operations. This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving control systems and field instrumentation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on automation and electrical experience, including working with voltages up to 480V.
Key Responsibilities• Install, program, calibrate, and maintain automation and electrical equipment.• Diagnose and resolve issues in control systems, PLCs, and instrumentation.• Support field operations with technical expertise on RTUs, sensors, and networked equipment.• Comply with industry codes and ’s Process Control and MOC standards.• Use SAP or other CMMS tools to track and document maintenance activities.• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to automation-related field issues.• Travel to various field locations and work in elevated or confined areas when needed.
Minimum Required Qualifications• Education: HS Degree or a GED• Experience:o 3+ years as an Automation Technician or Specialist.o 3+ years in oil and gas field operations.• Technical Skills:o Experience with voltages up to 480V.o Strong troubleshooting skills with RTUs, PLCs (ladder logic, structured text), and HMIs.o Familiar with analog/discrete I/O, AC/DC circuits, and industrial network protocols (Ethernet,serial).o Working knowledge of codes such as API, NEC, NFPA, ISA, and IEEE.• Tools: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows OS.Preferred Qualifications• 7+ years in the oil field, including 3+ years in upstream automation.• Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Rosemount systems, and industrial networks (ControlNet,Ethernet I/P, RF communications).• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and Cause & Effect matrices.• Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
