Job Assignment:
The Civil Inspector shall ensure that all Civil and Structural quality requirements of construction are met in accordance with Company procedures, international codes of practice and the design requirements. The assigned personnel must show evidence of a sound understanding of Civil & Marine construction practices, in a marine or petrochemical environment, in accordance with the applicable codes and standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Verifies, by monitoring and attending witness and hold points that construction activities from materials receiving right through to Mechanical Completion are performed in compliance with contract requirements.
2. Ensures that excavations, rock armour placement, earth fills, fencing, roadways, drainage and other civil engineering construction conforms to the plans, specifications, and accepted construction standards and practices. Communicates corrective action recommendations to Project Lead and Project Team.
3. Coordinates and interprets armour rocks, aggregate base course, earth fill, concrete, asphalt, and other construction material test results.
4. Ensures thorough familiarity with project codes, standards, schedules, drawings and documents. Review drawings and documentations.
5. Conducts QA/QC inspection activities for field works with daily inspection records and reports on findings.
6. Maintains records of inspection activity and completes daily inspection reports highlighting findings.
7. Reviews contractor’s test and inspection methods, witnesses and signs off same as required.
8. Makes recommendations to solve problems and confers with Project Lead as necessary to ensure compliance.
9. Reviews Contractor’s method statements for field construction activities.
10. Provides review of project documentation e.g. Construction Dossiers, Civil & Structural drawings, and Mechanical Data Books.
11. Participates in project review meetings.
12. Participates in Risk Assessments such as JSRAs, What-Ifs and Contingency Planning.
13. Provides support for field works required and ensures that works are conducted according to established safe practices and procedures.
14. Participates in construction walk downs.
Qualifications and Experience:
A UTT or NEC National Technician’s Diploma in Civil Engineering or related field.
As a minimum, the Civil Inspector shall have at least 10 years overall experience with a minimum of 7 years of Civil / Marine construction experience of similar in nature project type construction works and or marine environment.
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
· Good interpersonal skills; demonstrates integrity, assertiveness, and initiative
· Good communication skills, verbal and written
