Data Engineer Job Overview

The Data Engineer is responsible for building data integration solutions. You will be instrumental in implementing new technologies, designing & maintaining
scalable ETL/ELT processes, & developing & administering cloud-based data
platforms. This role requires a proactive individual with a passion for data quality, cloud
technology & continuous improvement.

Data Engineer key responsibilities:
 
  • Design build & maintain high performance data pipelines & API’s
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to understand business needs & align data
  • strategies accordingly
  • Assemble & optimise large, complex data sets from diverse sources.
  • Champion data quality & promote a data-as-products mindset.
  • Define & document technical solutions.
  • Apply appropriate rigour & testing to all products delivered.
  • Support troubleshooting & continuous improvement in all areas of data
  • management.
  • Foster a strong sense of ownership, urgency & teamwork within the Digital Team.

Data Engineer required to have:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in high-risk industries such as oil & gas, energy, or critical infrastructure is a plus.
  • Ability to design efficient & scalable data models for various analytical & operational use cases. Understanding of normalization & denormalization.
  • Strong ability to analyse complex data challenges, identify root causes, & propose effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in designing, building, & optimizing Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) or ELT pipelines from databases.
  • Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools like Informatica IICS, Azure Data Factory, or dbt Cloud.
  • Experience integrating data from various internal & external APIs (REST, SOAP, GraphQL).
  • Strong knowledge of data warehouse design principles, dimensional modelling, & experience with data warehousing solutions.
  • Understanding & experience of Azure or AWS data lake concepts.
  • Deep understanding of SQL databases, including schema design, indexing, & performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases for handling unstructured or semi-structured data.
  • Strong experience with SQL, Python, JAVA, JSON, Parquet
