Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Project Lead – Field-Based Role
The I&E Project Lead is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of instrumentation and electrical scopes within capital projects. This role emphasizes safety leadership, adherence to design specifications, and a mindset focused on simplification and efficiency. The position is primarily field-based, with up to 90% of time spent on-site, and reports to the Project Supervisor or Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example to promote a zero-incident culture and ensure work is completed correctly the first time.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and are ready for operational handover.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Issued for Construction (IFC) designs, minimizing late-stage changes.
  • Apply industry standards and internal specifications to all aspects of project execution.
  • Foster a respectful, accountable, and collaborative work environment.
  • Participate in design reviews (P&ID, 3D model, constructability, etc.) and provide input for efficient construction.
  • Oversee and approve pre-commissioning activities, including loop checks, function tests, and cause & effect validations.
  • Coordinate and ensure quality installation of instrumentation and controls systems.
  • Lead site QA/QC efforts and manage schedule alignment.
  • Manage function checks, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs).
  • Monitor project costs and schedules daily, identifying safe and effective ways to stay on track.
  • Provide weekly progress updates and look-ahead plans.
  • Manage multiple project sites and teams effectively.
  • Participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and safety evaluations.
  • Ensure timely closure of PSSRs and readiness for startup.
  • Lead contractor safety and risk management programs.
  • Verify that construction aligns with engineering work packs and specifications.
  • Support factory acceptance testing and conduct field inspections as needed.
  • Contribute to post-project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in instrumentation and electrical work within the energy sector.
  • 5+ years of experience leading I&E construction activities in field environments.
  • Journeyman electrical license.
  • Ability to work at heights, lift up to 50 lbs, and operate in extreme weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of I&E experience in oil and gas.
  • 5+ years of hands-on electrical work.
  • Master Electrician license (preferably in North Dakota).
  • Associate degree or higher in Instrumentation/Electrical.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in I&E systems.
  • Proven ability to influence contractors and drive performance improvements.
  • Experience in fast-paced, dynamic project environments.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and simplification of processes.
