Finance Advisor – Project Support

The Finance Advisor will support the Finance Manager to cover a wide range of finance topics for a major capital project. The emphasis of the role will be on financial setup and support, including project controls, tax, insurance, and accounting policy. This role is expected to transition into the Execute Phase (subject to Final Investment Decision) with a focus on supporting project delivery through to operational readiness.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Establish and promote a safety-first culture.

  • Manage the project’s Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in SAP.

  • Maintain cost allocation between project phases.

  • Provide financial support to change management and value improvement initiatives, including risk-benefit and cost-schedule analysis.

  • Collaborate with Contracting & Procurement and Project Services to uphold project controls, especially around contract management.

  • Coordinate finance topics such as tax, insurance, and audit requirements.

  • Design and maintain quality project accounting and financial controls, covering all aspects of financial reporting.

  • Monitor annual expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets.

  • Deliver accurate and timely financial reports and management information.

  • Coordinate month-end close and reporting processes.

  • Support assurance and stakeholder communications, including economic analysis, value reviews, audits, and joint venture assessments.

  • Ensure compliance with guidelines and maintain documentation to support risk mitigation and assurance activities.

  • Liaise with finance operations support teams across various global locations.

  • Assist in closing out the Define Phase and transitioning into Execute, including contract and administration wrap-up.

Special Challenges:

  • Coordinating inputs from multiple geographical locations.

  • Applying lessons learned from previous phases of the project.

  • Willingness to relocate or travel depending on project execution needs.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a relevant professional designation.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance and project controls; audit experience is an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence without authority.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Resilient and self-directed under pressure.

  • Proficient in SAP finance modules and systems thinking.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • This role has no direct reports.

  • Expected to work regular hours in the Calgary office during the Define Phase.

  • Involvement in multimillion-dollar lump sum execution and multibillion-dollar EPC contracts.

  • External interfaces will include contractors, suppliers, and vendors.

  • Anticipated start date: July 15, 2025.
