Job Title: HSE Advisor – Fixed Facility Operations & Novel Carbon Capture Testing
Location: Calgary, Alberta (On-Site)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract (2–9 months, with potential for extension)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Summary: Our client is seeking a qualified HSE Advisor to provide direct and independent support to fixed facility operations during a novel carbon capture testing period in Calgary, Alberta. This role will focus on delivering robust Health, Safety, and Environmental guidance, including support during pre-commissioning and commissioning of a proprietary MEA-based carbon capture process.

Position Summary: Our client is seeking a qualified HSE Advisor to provide direct and independent support to fixed facility operations during a novel carbon capture testing period in Calgary, Alberta. This role will focus on delivering robust Health, Safety, and Environmental guidance, including support during pre-commissioning and commissioning of a proprietary MEA-based carbon capture process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide HSE leadership and support for the ICS fixed facility location during a temporary assignment.
- Independently oversee daily operations to confirm adherence to all agreed-upon safety protocols.
- Support and participate in Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases of the Carbon Capture Loop.
- Oversee MEA system filling, sampling, and testing to confirm MEA concentration prior to Test Plan execution.
- Evaluate HSE observations and participate in determining root causes, corrective actions, and follow-ups.
- Approve updated SOPs and protocols in response to evolving test procedures and findings.
- Ensure all safety-related events are communicated appropriately to the technical leader, venture leader, and CTS HSE Director.
- Manage change within the testing environment and ensure conformance with safety processes.
- Promote and sustain a strong interdependent HSE culture on-site.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local (Alberta) HSE regulations and internal BH HSE requirements.
- Maintain and update risk assessments and procedures in accordance with regulatory, client, and internal standards.
- Support timely reporting, investigation, and closure of incidents.
- Represent the HSE function with confidence to employees, leadership, clients, regulators, and the public.
- HSE certification is required (e.g., CRSP, NCSO, or equivalent); degree not required.
- Proven experience providing HSE support in laboratory, chemical, or industrial environments; oil & gas experience is not required but is considered beneficial.
- Strong experience in Industrial Hygiene and health hazard evaluation.
- Demonstrated competency in interpreting and applying local regulatory requirements (Alberta-based).
- Previous HSE experience within laboratory environments is highly desirable.
- Ability to work legally within Alberta, Canada.
- Strong command of English (verbal and written).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proven organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to influence others in a safety-driven environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team player, while maintaining independence in decision-making.
- Safety-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to risk management.
