Manager of Technology - Smart Ship

Purpose
The Manager of Technology - Smart Ship will embody the role of strategic leader and subject matter expert within the company. This role shall execute the critical tasks of innovating and generating project ideas that align with the company strategic vision as well as respond to the ever-growing industry demands.

You will lead the Intelligent Systems Technology Center at Seoul, Republic of Korea to further enhance our
global network of technology centers and support our mission of safety in the region and around the world.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive network of collaborators, exploring new project opportunities, and facilitating the successful execution of projects with internal stakeholders and external clients. Projects focus on smart and autonomous functions, application of Artificial Intelligence, and future ship concepts.

Reporting Line: Report to a VP or Executive level position in Singapore

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Center in research and assessment of the maturity of new technologies in the field of Intelligent Marine and Offshore Systems with focus on the following areas:
-Application of AI for marine and offshore
-Smart and Intelligent Ship systems
-Ship autonomous systems
-Future ship concepts
-Digital twin of ship and offshore systems
-Smart technologies for shipyards
  • Lead the Center in development of guidance and classification requirements for the marine and offshore industry on the application of new technology.
  • Generate project ideas based on the company’s vision and industrial trends.
  • Establish a broad network of collaborators from industry, academia, and government for joint research initiatives. Set up project teams with these collaborators and lead or guide the project teams to plan and execute the projects.
  • Maintain and demonstrate thought leadership through technical publications, conference presentations and panel discussions.

Requirements
Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent in Engineering. Masters or PhD in appropriate discipline preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in relevant field is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience in intelligent systems for ships/offshore platforms such as collision detection and collision avoidance system, smart power/energy/battery management systems, and other software-driven systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in Artificial Intelligence would be an advantage.
  • Practical experience and knowledge in classification, marine & offshore industry/technologies and client relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to organize, manage and motivate personnel. Be able to assume a high level of individual responsibility.
