A leading Australian design consultancy is seeking a Mechanical Design Team Lead to support major projects across the country. With a strong presence in the water sector the company has a reputation for delivering quality design work across Australia.

Role Overview

As a Mechanical Design Lead, you will be involved in the design and delivery of piping and mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities. This position is suited for someone with deep technical expertise and a passion for mentoring others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and clients to define project scope and deliverables
  • Manage drafting schedules and allocate tasks across the design team
  • Oversee project performance to ensure quality, timelines, and budgets are met
  • Develop and review P&IDs, 3D models, isometric drawings, piping layouts, general arrangements, and Bills of Materials
  • Conduct quality checks in line with internal procedures and client standards
  • Support design reviews and ensure project documentation is up to date
  • Provide regular updates on project and team performance
  • Conduct site visits as needed
  • Mentor team members on technical and project management responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong leadership aligned with company values and policies
  • Develop strong relationships through professionalism and punctuality
Key Selection Criteria
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of Australian industry standards and regulations
  • Advanced skills in Plant 3D, Advance Steel, ACC, and Navisworks
  • Proven experience in water and wastewater treatment design
  • Excellent spatial awareness and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively and deliver high-quality outcomes
