The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering expertise and assurance in support of safe and reliable operations, growth projects and new technology development.

The aim of the role is to provide Mechanical Engineering and discipline leadership for plants worldwide with a typical combined gross acid/anhydride margin of >$500M:
 
  • Role model behavioral safety principles, process safety principles and lifesaving rules and influence assets to adopt these standards
  • Provide day-to-day advice and onsite TAR support in areas of mechanical design, specification, repair, maintenance, inspection and reliability in service of the safe and reliable operation of assets worldwide
  • Deliver engineering assurance to equipment specific issues in service of availability improvement at over the fence CO suppliers
  • Provide engineering advice and risk evaluation in response to breakdown or loss of containment and lead independent root cause analysis for complex failures
  • Establish and maintain contacts with key material suppliers and equipment vendors, and manage external technical support and consultancy services as required
  • Own and maintain technical practices as requested. Stay appraised of changes in industry codes and standards
  • Conduct training and awareness presentations
  • Maintain industry networks and identify developments in mechanical and materials technologies with the potential to benefit the company portfolio (Cativa, A5, SaaBre, VAM and EtAc)
Provide mechanical engineering skills to support major projects including both retrofit and new build opportunities to generate new value and licensing and proprietary equipment income for the business:
  • Act as custodian of the mechanical sections of any Technology Definition Package (TDP) and Engineering Manuals
  • Support the approval and maintenance of vendors on the Approved Vendor List
  • Support the supply of the proprietary Cativa equipment through design, procurement, and QA
  • Provide support to the subsequent stages of major projects such as technical queries, vendor assurance visits, construction reviews and training
  • Support materials selection and risks associated with the SaaBre commercial design
Provide engineering skills to support the delivery of $130M incremental EBITDA improvement 5 years through asset development Roadmaps

Support research activities involving laboratory scale and pilot plant studies, giving mechanical engineering advice.   Level of Education and Experience required:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering Science or appropriate engineering discipline Chartered Engineer A minimum of 5 years experience in Mechanical Engineering in a petrochemical manufacturing environment
