Mechanical Estimator
An opportunity exists for an experienced Estimator to join a growing team delivering essential water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role is instrumental in the preparation of accurate, competitive, and technically robust cost estimates that support both tendering and business development functions.

Working closely with engineering, design, and project delivery teams, the successful candidate will ensure that all proposals are aligned with client specifications, budgetary constraints, and regulatory compliance standards.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for water infrastructure projects.
  • Interpret technical documentation including P&ID drawings, general arrangements, and hydraulic calculations.
  • Source and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify value engineering opportunities and optimise project budgets.
  • Maintain and update a database of unit rates and historical project costs to enhance estimating accuracy.
  • Support project handover processes to ensure alignment between estimated and actual project scopes.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in estimating for water or wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and applying hydraulic design principles
  • Strong understanding of cost implications of design decisions
  • Commercial acumen with demonstrated ability to negotiate with suppliers and optimise costs
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent estimates
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in estimating within water, wastewater, or related infrastructure sectors
  • Exposure to projects for councils and water authorities
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into commercially viable solutions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Motivated by precision, cost control, and contributing to the delivery of critical infrastructure
