Opportunity: We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Calgary to support the substation protection & control design group. We offer a dynamic work environment with a highly experienced technical team, where you will be offered guidance and hands on training and continuously challenged in all aspects of the engineering and design process.

Responsibilities:
  • Protection and control design including logic, schematic, wiring diagrams for utility and renewable substations.
  • Develop control building layout, P&C one line diagram, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram.
  • Review designs against applicable industry codes and standards as well as internal standards.
  • Create bill of materials, cable schedules, point assignments.
  • Work closely with other disciplines and coordination design between disciplines (SCADA, Telecom)
  • Ensure communications take place between Design, Construction, and Testing & Commissioning and layout.
  • Prepare Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and Engineering Design Specification (EDS) documents.
  • Prepare estimates, material take offs, scopes of work, and design packages.
  • Prepare all relevant IFC drawings and engineering reports.
  • Write construction scope of work and prepare IFC construction binders.
  • Provide engineering support during construction.
  • Complete station As-Built drawings and project close out
  • Act as Design lead on projects with guidance from Principal engineer.
  • Develop internal standards and procedures using IEEE and CSA standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to the P&C design team.
  • Perform a project management role on engineering only projects.
  • Track project progress for engineering activities to ensure budgets and schedules are met.
  • Provide weekly updates to senior management regarding projects progress, budgets and resourcing.
  • Provide on the job training for new hires and junior members of the team.
  • Maintain in depth knowledge of client and industry standards.
  • Oversee and review designs of projects to ensure technical requirements are met and perform quality checks.
  • Identify and develop new tools and processes to increase working efficiency.
  • Complete engineering and material cost estimates for bids/proposals.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with existing clients.
  • Actively promote Safety in Design.
  • Possibility of travel for site visits and to provide technical support during construction.
