As part of the Central Engineering function, you will play a key role in supporting regional teams, business development, and project execution with reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable engineering solutions.
The Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation (EIA) Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle support of electrical and automation systems across new and existing terminal assets. This includes involvement in the full project cycle from concept to commissioning, particularly for energy transition initiatives and modernization programs.

The Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation (EIA) Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle support of electrical and automation systems across new and existing terminal assets. This includes involvement in the full project cycle from concept to commissioning, particularly for energy transition initiatives and modernization programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create comprehensive technical documentation and requirements for both new developments and upgrades of existing facilities.
- Take ownership of the planning, execution, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems across storage and infrastructure projects.
- Design robust and energy-efficient electrical networks, control panels, automation systems, and instrumentation layouts that meet operational and safety standards.
- Conduct system studies including power demand assessments, fault level calculations, and coordination analysis to ensure reliable system performance.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure smooth integration of EIA components within terminal and facility designs.
- Oversee construction and site activities, ensuring execution aligns with engineering plans and agreed timelines.
- Deliver expert support for technical troubleshooting, performance improvements, and system upgrades of electrical and control infrastructure.
- Engage in all engineering stages, from early feasibility and conceptual development through to front-end and detailed engineering.
- Participate in design and operational safety evaluations such as HAZOPs, hazard identification studies, and risk assessments.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of internal engineering guidelines and ensure adherence to industry regulations and safety codes.
- Provide technical input during the proposal phase of projects, supporting commercial teams with scope definitions, cost estimates, and risk assessments.
- Act as a key contact point between central engineering, regional project teams, and local operations to ensure alignment and effective knowledge transfer.
- Drive the identification and implementation of process automation opportunities in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders.
Candidate Profil
- Eligible to work in the Netherlands (valid work authorization required).
- Advanced degree (MSc or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Over 10 years of relevant engineering experience, particularly in the development and execution of electrical and instrumentation systems in industrial settings such as terminals, refineries, or process facilities.
- Demonstrated proficiency in designing low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, including system layout, power calculations, and protection coordination.
- Strong knowledge of relevant engineering standards and codes (e.g., IEC, IEEE, ATEX, NFPA) and practical experience in high-risk or hazardous environments.
- Practical experience with key equipment and systems such as motor control centers, heat tracing, power distribution, switchgear, and automation technologies.
- Certification in LV/MV electrical systems is a plus.
- Excellent analytical skills and sound technical judgment, with a clear understanding of business and operational impact.
- Self-motivated team player with a hands-on approach and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; additional languages are beneficial.
- Occasional travel required (10–20% annually).
- Openness to temporary international assignments is a plus
