SENIOR ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

Description
Responsible for carrying out effective preventive and corrective repairs to plant control and electrical equipment and other company assets in a manner consistent with equipment manufacturer’s specification and standard electrical practices and as directed by the Plant Production Manager or his designate.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct competent and effective preventative and corrective electrical maintenance on all rotating and stationary electrical equipment in a cost-effective manner consistent with manufacturer’s operating and maintenance guidelines in a manner that ensures the highest reliability and efficiency from these units.
  • Responsible for performing all levels of electrical preventative maintenance on all generating units and plant auxiliary equipment in a manner consistent with equipment manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • To be highly knowledgeable of and competent in the electrical spares parts required by the generation units and supporting electrical systems at the power plants and to identify and recommend to the management staff of the Division the spares parts that are needed for maintenance.
  • Display a profound knowledge of underlying theoretical and operating principles of all electrical equipment used in diesel fired operation and to utilize this knowledge in developing the Technical competence and capacity of assigned junior maintenance personnel.
  • Prepare comprehensive job reports and failure analysis report.
  • Competently use proper tooling during equipment repair and safeguard and maintain tools and other electrical repair equipment.
  • Operate shop tools as needed to fabricate, repair, weld, solder, cut, drill, etc.
  • Maintain records and reports as required (including inventory of necessary parts).
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment in ensuring that maintenance activities are performed by self and team members in full compliance with the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures when on the plant site and during the execution of work duties.
  • Make recommendations (supported by data) to management staff in the Division of new techniques, tooling and processes to improve maintenance activities and increase overall plant efficiency.
  • Be available to respond to emergencies at all times outside of regular working hours, as may be required by plant contingency.

Academic/Technical/Management Experience & Qualifications:
  • Successfully complete all the units of module in NCCER Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 (or equivalent) and have at least 10 years industrial experience in the operations, maintenance and repair of diesel generating stations. An Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in the electrical engineering trades will be an accepted equivalent academic qualification.
  • Successfully complete NCCER Crew Leadership Program (or equivalent supervisory/leadership training).
  • Significant experience in failure diagnostics, trouble shooting and carrying out all levels of preventative and corrective electrical maintenance/repair of large generation units and in particular Wärtsilä 20V32 generating units and Caterpillar 3600 Series units is required.
  • Significant experience with and competency in the use of computers, PLCs and standard computing software programs.
  • Significant experience in high voltage installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Above average analytical skills in math and principles of diesel engine machines
  • Excellence in interpretation of engineering drawings and manuals.
  • Professional competency in written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Must display a high competency in the use of computers and standard engineering and office computing software programs utilized in maintenance activities, reporting and record keeping.
