Primary Objective
Occupational Health and Safety
With over 90 years' combined experience, NES Fircroft (NES) is proud to be the world's leading engineering staffing provider spanning the Oil & Gas, Power & Renewables, Chemicals, Construction & Infrastructure, Life Sciences, Mining and Manufacturing sectors worldwide. With more than 80 offices in 45 countries, we are able to provide our clients with the engineering and technical expertise they need, wherever and whenever it is needed. We offer contractors far more than a traditional recruitment service, supporting with everything from securing visas and work permits, to providing market-leading benefits packages and accommodation, ensuring they are safely and compliantly able to support our clients.
- Support the Principal Subsea System Engineer as the technical owner of discrete scopes. This includes major subsea structures (e.g. subsea trees (XTs), manifolds, controls distribution structures and pig launcher/receiver systems) related to Hydrocarbon and CCS projects.
- Coordinate timely review and assurance of engineering deliverables from the Pre-FEED Engineering Services Contractor, ensuring alignment with project requirements, INPEX standards, industry best practices, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Support risk-based decision-making across all subsea mechanical aspects – including preliminary design, installation methodology, operability, and maintenance considerations to drive CAPEX efficient, safe and reliable design outcomes.
- Participate in technical reviews, design verifications, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, operability reviews and constructability assessments.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders from various disciplines (pipelines, drilling, environment, technical safety, flow assurance, onshore facilities, projects, operations, etc.) to ensure integrated and optimised subsea system designs that aligns with overall development objectives.
- Apply strong project engineering skills, including coordinating technical inputs, facilitating internal alignment meetings, tracking schedules, and managing assigned scopes of work.
Occupational Health and Safety
- Conduct all activities safely and efficiently in line with INPEX policies and procedures, ensuring the welfare of personnel and the protection of assets and the environment.
- Embed safety considerations throughout design and delivery.
- Actively promote and model behaviours aligned with the INPEX HSE culture.
- Support and uphold the Development HSE Charter—aiming for a "Best in Industry" safety culture.
- Identify and record risks and uncertainties in the project risk register and relevant deliverables.
- Ensure risks are clearly communicated to relevant stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Ensure Pre-FEED Engineering Contractor’s technical work (in particular, designs for subsea structures and tie-in equipment) meets all INPEX requirements, Australian regulatory standards, and global industry best practices.
- Provide guidance and oversight in the mechanical design and analysis of subsea hardware during the concept and pre-FEED stages, ensuring that all design proposals are technically sound and drive towards minimum functional requirements and minimum cost.
- Contribute to risk-based decision-making and evaluation of potential design options by clearly identifying and articulating their associated risks and benefits (with a focus on cost reduction) to support informed decision-making processes for critical Subsea equipment design.
- Support subsea technology qualification programs through identification, definition and review of test scopes, results, and reporting.
- Assist in the preparation and updates of key engineering documents such as the Basis of Design and Design Specifications to support progression to FEED and Execution phases.
- Contribute to peer assists, peer reviews, and internal assurance reviews by evaluating technical content and preparing presentation materials that clearly communicate subsea engineering outcomes and recommendations.
- Participate in design workshops including HAZID/ENVID sessions, design reviews, and constructability assessments.
- Provide input to subsea cost and schedule estimates by reviewing and advising on material take-offs (MTOs), installation methodologies, and equipment specifications during Concept Select and pre-FEED stages.
- Assist in planning offshore geophysical, geotechnical and metocean surveys by contributing to survey scope development, specifying data requirements, and reviewing survey results for implications on subsea design and installation.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Early Development, Development and Operations teams, as well as with third-party contractors and vendors.
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, peers, and senior personnel across INPEX to support project delivery.
- Lead timely reviews and approvals of contractor deliverables, providing technical guidance to resolve outstanding issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in subsea engineering within the oil and gas industry.
- Demonstrated experience in subsea engineering, with a focus on mechanical and structural aspects. Strong background in offshore subsea system design, manufacture, installation, and pre-commissioning.
- Working knowledge of the ISO 13628 series, particularly Part 15, with a focus on the design of subsea structures and manifolds.
- Proven capability across all major project phases: concept, Pre-FEED, FEED, and execution.
- Experience coordinating engineering scopes delivered by external contractors and consultants.
- Strong commitment to improving HSE performance and outcomes.
- Solid understanding of typical project assurance frameworks and stage-gated project development processes.
- Highly motivated and proactive, with experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural team environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond effectively to evolving project needs.
- Internal (environment, technical safety, subsea, flow assurance, onshore facilities, and operations) and External (Engineering Service Contractor)
- Project Integration Managers
- Technical Delivery Managers
