Are you a seasoned Estimator ready to influence major capital and operational projects from concept to completion?
NES Fircroft is seeking a Specialist Estimator to join our client’s Project Services Team in Perth. This role offers the chance to work on some of Australia’s most significant mining and resource projects, supporting multi-discipline teams across the project lifecycle.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
 
  • Review and occasionally deliver capital and operating cost estimates across all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Analyse engineering deliverables, scope of work, project schedules, execution plans, contractor submissions, and market intelligence to build and review detailed estimates.
  • Coordinate and consolidate cost estimates with accountability for final deliverables for Technical Evaluations and Stage Gates.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams and external consultants to ensure estimates align with company standards and AACE Class definitions.
  • Challenge assumptions respectfully and investigate cost variations or potential savings.
  • Assist in tender evaluation, contractual claim reviews, and supplementary cost assessments.
  • Maintain and evolve the internal cost database for benchmarking and future reference.
  • Present cost estimates and variance insights to leadership, PAC, and capital review teams.
 
 Capabilities & Skills Required:
 
 
  • 8+ years’ experience in project cost estimation within mining, oil & gas, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to develop Basis of Estimates, outlining all key assumptions, exclusions, and methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of project management processes, construction methods, risk management, and contract frameworks.
  • Experience collaborating across Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and PMO functions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to influence stakeholders and lead conversations around estimate accuracy and risk.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating software and Microsoft Excel; exposure to estimating databases and ERP systems highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of AACE International classification standards (Class 1–5 estimates).

  • Internal: Procurement, Finance, Controllership, Business Analysis, Project Engineering, Development & Technology Teams
  • External: Engineering & construction partners, estimating consultants, study & delivery teams

  • Delivering reliable, class-appropriate estimates to support decision-making at Stage Gates and PAC submissions
  • Enabling project teams to stay on budget through accurate forecasting and lessons learned
  • Championing continuous improvement in estimation tools, accuracy, and process maturity
