An international company active in tank storage and energy infrastructure is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join its central engineering department. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and support for the development of new energy and chemical storage projects — including feasibility, conceptual design, permitting, and FEED activities.
You will play a key role in ensuring the deployment of efficient, proven, and sustainable solutions for terminal design and construction projects, with a particular focus on emerging technologies such as methanol, sustainable aviation fuels (eSAF), and refrigerated gas storage.
This position is based at the company’s headquarters in Rotterdam, collaborating with business development, project managers, and site engineering teams across various regions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide process engineering input for new energy and chemical infrastructure projects (e.g. methanol, eSAF, refrigerated storage).
  • Conduct feasibility studies, conceptual and basic engineering, permitting support, and front-end engineering design (FEED).
  • Supervise and review detailed engineering performed by EPC contractors.
  • Support local project engineers and managers in identifying and solving technical challenges across operational sites.
  • Prepare technical documentation including engineering packages, tender specifications, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Review and develop engineering standards and specifications in line with current technologies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews, HAZOP studies, and other risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with internal engineering and safety standards.
  • Liaise with business development, commercial, and cluster/terminal teams to align project goals and technical solutions.
  • Share knowledge between corporate functions and operational sites to strengthen engineering capabilities group-wide.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Your Profile
  • Master’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8–10 years of relevant experience in process design and engineering, preferably in the oil, gas, or chemical storage sector.
  • Prior involvement in methanol-related projects is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with European and international design standards (e.g. API, ASME, IEC).
  • Proven ability to develop pragmatic engineering solutions that meet safety, operational, and commercial requirements.
  • Experience working in multicultural, international environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Confident, team-oriented, with strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to relocate abroad temporarily in the future is considered a plus.
Important Requirement Applicants must be eligible to work in the Netherlands (EU citizenship or valid work permit is required).
