Our client is looking for a Syngas Process Engineer to join their team based in Hull. They need highly motivated individuals who want to be part of their growing business.
Our client is a global chemicals business producing acetic acid and a range of derivatives across Europe, Asia and America.
The multidiscipline Technology Support Team is based in Hull, UK, and provides the global business with technology development, asset optimisation and engineering design for growth projects.
You will be based at the Hull site, which is the largest producer of acetic acid, acetic anhydride and ethyl acetate in Europe. The products we produce are essential building blocks used in almost every industry, including renewable power, automotive, pharmaceuticals, coatings and textiles.
Hull site is based on the 370-acre Saltend Chemicals Park - a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses at the heart of the UK's energy estuary.

The opportunity
In this role you will work with the Senior Syngas Process Engineer to provide syngas technology knowledge and operations experience in support of safe and reliable operations, growth projects and new technology development. You will work with the assets to plan and deliver a programme of variable cost, sustainability, capacity creep and reliability improvement projects.

You will monitor and respond to asset performance, co-ordinating multidiscipline technical support to troubleshoot, benchmark, and optimise the plants in support of safe, reliable, and competitive operations. You will share best practice and lessons learned between assets to maximise performance.

Key accountabilities
  • Provide technical support, operational expertise, and engineering assurance in service of the safe and reliable operation of Acetyls assets worldwide
  • Develop a network of contacts across syngas assets to capture lessons learned, share best practices and develop deeper technical competency
  • Network with syngas technology providers to maintain an understanding of their technologies and help provide effective support to business assets.
  • Support delivery of business improvement Roadmaps for assets including working with over the fence CO suppliers to improve CO availability
  • Monitor syngas asset reliability performance, understand the root causes of reliability events and intervene to identify and implement reliability improvement actions.
  • Monitor syngas asset efficiency performance, identifying and delivering efficiency improvement actions and leveraging improvements across multiple sites where appropriate.
  • Support the development of concepts for syngas supply and integration for new projects including inputting capital and operating cost estimates
  • Evaluate alternative CO sources that may offer future sustainability benefits
  • Provide technical assistance to the subsequent stages of major projects
About you

We are looking for a Chartered Chemical Engineer with extensive experience in the application of chemical engineering skills to the development and delivery of process optimisation and development projects. Experience of syngas and petrochemicals technologies would be an advantage.

You will have strong troubleshooting and engineering optimisation skills, based on the ability to analyse process data and apply a deep understanding of engineering principles to identify root cause or improvement opportunities.

You will be a role model for personal and process safety leadership with a strong manufacturing, business and commercial acumen. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence without formal authority and work across different cultures is key to this role.

An understanding of intellectual property protection and competition law is also essential along with process simulation skills and asset performance benchmarking experience.
