Opportunity:

Our client is currently seeking a Senior Engineer team lead to join our team in Calgary to support the substation protection & control group.

Responsibilities:
  • Protection and control design including single line and logic diagrams for utility and renewable substations.
  • Develop Protection relay settings and configurations.
  • Substation modeling in (Etap, aspen and Cape)
  • Review relay settings completed by junior staff against applicable industry codes and standards as well as internal standards.
  • Work closely with other disciplines and coordination relay settings with SCADA and Telecom
  • Asist in Design Basis Memorandum (DBM) and Engineering Design Specification (EDS) documents for protection and control philosophy
  • Prepare estimates.
  • Prepare all relevant IFC engineering reports and relay configurations.
  • Provide engineering support during construction.
  • Complete station As-Built reports and project close out
  • Act as lead on settings projects with guidance from Principal engineer
  • Develop internal standards and procedures using IEEE and CSA standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to the relay settings team
  • Track project progress for engineering activities to ensure budgets and schedules are met.
  • Provide on the job training for new hires and junior members of the team.
  • Maintain in depth knowledge of client and industry standards.
  • Oversee and review designs of projects to ensure technical requirements are met and perform quality checks.
  • Identify and develop new tools and processes to increase working efficiency.
  • Complete engineering and material cost estimates for bids/proposals.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with existing clients.
  • Actively promote Safety in Design.
Qualifications:
  • Proven track record in protection & control relay settings of high voltage facilities.
  • Minimum 10 years’ work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a wide spectrum of clients.
  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and registered as an active member with APEGA.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
  • Positive attitude, strong client focus and results driven.
  • Experience in the utility industry
  • Experience with relay software (aSELerator, EnerVista, Digsi etc)
