Position: Welding/ NDT Inspector
Location: Sohar, Oman
Duration: 12 months renewable
Status: Resident, 5 days per day
Start date: ASAP

The Welding/ NDT Inspector is responsible for following-up, monitoring and supervising NDT & Inspection activities carried out by the Plant & Tank Contractors and Subcontractors at Site and if at Vendors Yards as required during the Construction, and Pre-commissioning phases ensuring that his discipline’s contractual and technical requirements are duly applied by the Contractors and/or Subcontractors.

In this respect, and to ascertain that the facilities are built as per the project requirements, the job holder, in the perimeter of his discipline, verifies and comments Contractor’s and/or Subcontractor’s NDT procedures and methodologies, NDT map, and ensure that Contractor and/or Subcontractors have adequate equipment, resources, means and manpower to performed the job with the required quality level and to compete it in due time. He is also closely monitoring the calibration and storage of NDT equipment (Gamma-ray, UT set, MPI...) He reports on a day-to-day basis directly to Senior Welding/ NDT Inspector.

The job holder participates to routine and random inspections and assists to daily / regular Construction meetings related to his discipline with Contractors and/or Subcontractors, performs HSE visits and tours as required... and ensures an adequate reporting to the Senior Welding/ NDT Inspector (areas of concerns, problems encountered in its discipline during construction and/or implementation by Contractors and/or Subcontractors).
As a general manner, the job holder provides assistance to Company Construction team for all matters related to his discipline in accordance with instructions provided by his discipline Superintendent and is accountable for demonstrating, individually, an exemplary behaviour with regard to HSSE rules & requirements.

ACTIVITIES
1. To adopt and to demonstrate an exemplary behaviour with regard to Company "Code of Conduct" and HSSE rules and regulations. To implement HSE rules and requirements within his area of responsibility, and to comply with HSSE training requirements for the position.
2. To be kept informed of the project technical referential and international standards related to his area of responsibility, taking knowledge from them for application to the Project. To apply, as required, Discipline specific instructions at shipyard Construction Site.
3. To ensure all along construction and fabrication phases that the Plant & Tank Contractor are enforcing their contractual commitments, are implementing properly their construction plans and objectives, and are performing safely their activities as per Project specifications, design and codes.
As such, they shall:
  • Monitor performance of NDT operators,
  • Monitor and control the implementation on site of Surveillance plans, Inspection and test plans,
  • Ensure/witness that the works are closely inspected by the contractor’s QC inspection
  • team (e.g. RT, UT, MPI, PMI, etc.) and that NDT reports are available in due time
  • Review and endorse RT films report if necessary.
  • Monitor the work deficiencies and backlog and ensure the implementation of the necessary corrective actions.
  • Follow up on the implementation of decided action plans, or other mitigation plan issued.
  • Stop & report immediately to Senior Welding/ NDT Inspector any anomaly or nonconformity.
  • Interface with relevant Construction team or QC site authority on /QC issues and on the implementation of the Company QC requirements.
  • Attend and participate in daily discipline meetings or various construction meetings, and provide support to the Construction team in its various reviews
  • Participate to construction, HSE or QC specific visits; Provide regular inspection & activity reports.
4. To ensure the tracking of anomalies and non-conformities performed by the Contractors and ensure a correct follow-up of corrective actions.
5. Perform welding Inspection and all related activities
6. In General:
  • To assist the Senior Welding/ NDT Inspector when required.
  • To provide technical support and assistance to any query related to his discipline
  • To implement his discipline methods for the supervision of the day-to-day activities.
  • To enforce decisions/directions taken at Management level and as directed by the Senior Welding/ NDT Inspector
7. To report to the Senior Welding/ NDT Inspector wrt to Discipline activities, in particular when deviations to works are detected.
8. To ensure confidentiality of all the documentation issued under his area of responsibility.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  • Engineering, constructions & installation techniques 4  Team relationship
  • Welding and NDT techniques
  • Knowledge of International codes relevant to the discipline
  • Use of software's: word, excel, email
  • Knowledge of Project referential; rules/procedures

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND
  • Professional Experience (years): min 10 years in NDT activities
  • Experience in similar position (years): mini 5 years in similar role and on LNG Plant Construction
  • Valid Level 2 certificate: ASNT 9712; PCN (or equivalent) in UT, RT, MT and PT
  • Valid welding certificate: CSWIP 3.1, AWS CWI
